About Earth Scan Lab

The Earth Scan Lab is a satellite data receiving station and image processing facility at Louisiana State University that captures, analyzes, and visualizes real-time environmental data from NOAA, NASA, and hurricane forecast platforms. Located within the College of the Coast & Environment, the lab supports a wide range of research, education, outreach, and emergency response initiatives.

We specialize in high-resolution satellite imagery and environmental visualization products, including sea surface temperature (SST), ocean color, atmospheric moisture, hurricane tracking, forecast visualization, and historical storm analysis.

Our mission is to serve researchers, students, policymakers, and the public by providing accessible, timely, and accurate remote sensing and environmental data products. We support studies in:

  • Hurricane tracking, forecasting, and historical storm analysis
  • Coastal erosion and sea level rise monitoring
  • Oceanic and atmospheric dynamics
  • Disaster response and risk communication
